At 5.45am there was approximately 2-3cm of snow in the area, which was already melting. School is open as normal. Please take care on the roads.

Thurs 9th Feb - School Transport, Friday 10th February 2012

At 4pm Thursday 9th February we anticipate that the school will be open on Friday and that school transport will run as normal. Some ice and snow is expected, and the Local Authority has suggested that students living in areas that are difficult for the coach to access make their way to a more accessible stop on the route, such as a main road stop. Drivers will make every effort to pick up from the normal places, but will make decisions to ensure student safety. They may also be running slightly late due to local road conditions.

Friday 7th Jan - Weather Warning

The Local Authority has been advised by the Met Office that Worcestershire will experience a 'short-term weather event' tomorrow, with a strong likelyhood of snow early tomorrow morning (Friday 7th January).

Snow is anticipated across Worcestershire between 4am and 9am. This is expected to turn to sleet and rain later in the morning, with rain continuing throughout the afternoon.

We anticipate that the school will be open, but there may be some disruption to transport routes.

Please watch this blog for an update in the morning.

Over the next week we are forecast slightly warmer weather. As far as I can see there is no snow forecast.
School will be open as normal unless we inform you otherwise via the website and this blog.

My thanks to parents for using the bus bay in the mornings when dropping students at school.

A mains water leak resulted in a thick patch of treacherous ice in the lane between the bus bay and the Sixth Form building, reducing the lane to a single car width in places. We contacted the relevant authorities to fix the leak at the earliest opportunity, but in the mean time sub-zero temperatures resulted in the situation getting worse throughout the week. Had we allowed cars up the lane the resulting bottle-neck would have caused delays and frustration to parents, and accidents would inevitably have occured as cars shunted and skidded on and around the ice. It would also have prevented those teachers and staff delayed by road conditions getting in to work, impacting upon students in school.

We have tried to manage the situation to ensure the safety of students and drivers, and to minimise delays to parents. I am grateful to parents for their calm and good humoured cooperation, and also for the loan of a very bright but very warm high-vis coat!

If the current weather conditions continue I would appreciate parents' further support in driving as far round the bus bay as possible before stopping to drop off their children. This will reduce the tail back onto the main road.

We have been informed by the bus company that hazardous road conditions mean that the bus will not be able to access Earls Croome, Quay Lane or Brook End Lane this afternoon. It will remain on the A38 for these sections.
